Disabled Access

A theatre ticket gives you parking space in the top field with a short (200 yard) walk down into the main auditorium where seating is on grass banks and terraces (no chairs permitted).

If you need any or all of the following in order to enjoy a concert in our lovely theatre, then please do ask

  • A parking space adjacent to the theatre. This is intended for people who cannot easily walk the full distance from the main car park. Please ask the first steward on arrival on the day.
  • Chair seating on the easy access deck at the top of the theatre. This is the only space where you can have a chair, and is reserved for people who cannot sit on the ground. Please ask for a (free) Chair Pass at the same time as you buy your ticket. You will need to bring your own chair and can be accompanied by one other person (ask for a Chair Pass for your companion too). Priority is given to people in wheelchairs. If space permits on the day we can be more flexible in accommodating more companions.
  • A free ticket for a personal assistant. This will be offered where a person with a disability needs to be accompanied by a personal assistant (PA) in order to be able to attend the theatre. Please buy your ticket by any of the normal methods, and ring 01647-253916 or email theatre@sheldonretreat.com with a brief explanation of who needs the PA ticket and why.

Notes

The Theatre aims to comply fully with both the spirit and provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 and the Equality Act 2010.

To be eligible for a free personal assistant ticket, a person is considered to have a ‘disability’ if they have a physical or mental impairment, which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.

The Theatre reserves the right to ask for Proof of disability before providing the concessionary ticket.  (If the disabled person cannot attend but their assistant still wishes to, they will then need to pay for a full price ticket.)

‘Proof of disability’ can include:

  • Receipt of the middle or higher rate of the Disability Living Allowance (mobility or care component).
  • Receipt of either the Severe Disablement Allowance or Attendance Allowance.
  • A personal letter from a GP.

Receipt of a Blue Badge will not be considered sufficient proof of disability for PA ticket. A Blue Badge is helpful but not required to request close parking or Chair Pass .
